OK, I'm sounding a little like Grandfather here (by the way - NOT a grandpa).
Point is, I've learned something! Why not say it? There is so much more to be missed!.
Footnote - this is one that Thom and I composed on the spot, music and lyrics tumbling out. I love it when that happens!
lyrics
When I was younger, so much younger than I am
I had a path that showed me…which way to begin
I had my parents, God knows they tried
They gave me their all ‘til…my parents died
I was homeless, an urchin, lost out on the street…I had nothing, I had no one, my life was incomplete
I took my money, what little I had, and I gambled it away on the promise of a future
Of a brand-new day…
I met somebody…who tempted me…with love…
I had nothing to relate to, no common way to know… this was true love
I had excitement, I had endearment, I had closeness, I had everything that looked like love
But it was nothing, it was helpless, it was hopeless—
It left me in a bind … That love I couldn’t find … Had me staggering blind … For such a long time
When I found my freedom, I knew myself one day
I had a token, I had a rhythm, I had a song to play
But now I’m older, there’s not much more of me left—it’s a question: just what to do?
I have so little time, I must impart my knowledge on to you
So all you people, anyone who listens, just remember this:
When you get older, there is so much more to be missed…the love that gets away, you can find it every day
